    YOUR COPILOT NOTES

A little help on the radio.

Choose the best response and action for the facts shown. Each encounter starts fresh. The pilot is qualified and other flight requirements are satisfied unless the encounter says otherwise.

    Know your callsign
You are N734EB. A general reply to an unidentified aircraft may be meant for someone else.
    Class D and Class C
A reply using your callsign establishes two-way communication for arrival or through-flight entry. Follow any instruction to remain outside.
    Class B
You need an explicit Class B clearance before entry. A heading or a callsign acknowledgment alone is insufficient.
    Weather
Below 10,000 feet MSL, Class E requires at least 3 statute miles of flight visibility and cloud separation of 500 feet below, 1,000 above, and 2,000 horizontally.
    Runway instructions
Read back hold-short instructions with the runway number. Line up and wait is not takeoff clearance.
    Emergency radio
MAYDAY identifies distress; PAN-PAN identifies urgency. State the problem and assistance needed while maintaining control and following the aircraft checklist.
    Equipment
Class C ordinarily requires ADS-B Out as well as an altitude-reporting transponder and radio. This circuit assumes no equipment deviations have been authorized.

MSL = mean sea level · SM = statute miles · NM = nautical miles · VFR = visual flight rules · XPDR = transponder. Aircraft position, weather and ATC are scripted; there is no live flight data.

Up to 3 points: two for accuracy and one for well-calibrated confidence. Two or more incorrect attempts earn no accuracy points. Use 1–4 to choose and Enter to continue. No timer. Emergency scenarios practice communication, not aircraft-specific procedures. Teacher review recommended before classroom use; this is not a flight-navigation tool.
